Fujifilm X-E1 – The Evolution of X
The Fujifilm X-E1 interchangeable lens digital rangefinder camera is the next step in the evolution of X.
The Fujifilm X-E1 is everything that Fuji’s flagship X-Pro1 is minus the hybrid viewfinder. In fact it comes with a plethora of plusses making it a very appealing choice quickly carving out its place among X-series and other mirror-less cameras.
Along with an attainable price tag – much more affordable than the X-Pro1 – you get a choice between stealthy black or seductive silver and the Fuji X-E1 is also a touch more compact and lightweight than the X-Pro1 and includes the addition of a built-in pop-up flash.
Even the software has been improved making for faster focusing giving the XE-1 a very high IQ. However, if you’re an X-Pro1 owner already, don’t worry, the improvements are yours too with the latest firmware update.
Best of all, the Fujifilm X-E1 is now being offered as a Kit including your choice of silver or black camera body and the new 18-55mm F2.8-4.0 Lens for only $1399.95 ($300 less than if purchased separately)

Rangefinder Body with Manual Controls
The Fujifilm X-E1 is the newest camera in the X-Series featuring the ultimate rangefinder camera body to get your hands on. It’s a touch meatier than the X100, especially with the 18-55mm lens attached, and just a little more compact than the X-Pro1 but with its design improvements and then some.
Especially nice are the shaping and ergonomics of the handgrip with a new thumb “hook” just below the shutter release.
Of course, just like the others, you can expect the solid and robust build quality that has become synonymous with the Fujifilm X100 and X-Pro1.
X-Trans Sensor and EXR Processor Pro
The X-E1 features the same 16 megapixel “X-Trans” CMOS Sensor that was introduced with the X-Pro1. The X-Trans sensor features a redesigned color filter array inspired by the randomness of film grains.
It eliminates the need for a low-pass filter in the lens as employed on most all other cameras and contributes to sharper, film-like, images requiring less light.
X-Mount and Interchangeable Lenses
The Fujifilm X-Mount is another innovation inherited from the X-Pro1. The X-Mount features shorter back focus increasing edge-to-edge resolution and clarity by minimizing the distance from lens to sensor.
At time of writing, there are five Fujifilm lenses available for the X-E1 with five more in the works for 2013.

There are also a number of lens adapters available including the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Leica M-Mount Lens Adapter
New “Natural look” Electronic Viewfinder
The new “natural look” 2.36M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder provides excellent detail and rich color representation of exposure, white balance and film simulation modes.
X-cellent Image Quality
Photographer Gueorgui Pinkhassov shoots with the Fujifilm X-E1.
Pictures offer evidence. Pictures accompany life itself.
The light and shadow that surrounds them.
I want to take a shot of feelings that are created from the light caught by people.
The first thing I realized by trying this camera was the brilliance of the lens.
It has the ability to shoot a soft and live picture.
Although the resolution is high, I like how it is not too sharp.
But the merits of this camera are the lightness and the unbelievable convenience.
It doesn’t command attention, so I can shoot from various angles.
That is the fun about this. It is really easy to use and also get the job done.
Extremely smooth and lively pictures and respects what I want to shoot.
That’s what this camera can do… Gueorgui Pinkhassov
The Fujifilm X-E1 really does have it all – superb image quality, great looks, excellent handling and a quick intellect. The X-E1 seems to be the camera that all the others have been building up to. It’s the X100 with interchangeable lenses and the X-Pro1 at an attainable price. If you don’t already have one of those, perhaps the Fuji X-E1 is the camera you’ve been waiting for.
The X-E1 Kit is currently on pre-sale for $300 less than if you were to buy the X-E1 body and lens separately.
